<br />
I got to meet some fellow Etsians in person and of course meet some new crafty peeps. I didn't have much time to wonder around, so my only regret was not meeting more vendors (and probably buying their stuff).<br />
<br />
Here are a few shots of my table, there is a lot going on visually since I shared a table with another vendor; <br />

The idea was to give 30 artists 30 canvas and have them complete 30 works of art in 30 days. Pretty intense if you ask me!<br />
<br />
Each artist donates their time and ability and each piece sells for $40. The best part is the profits help send kids to art camp. Yay! Everyone wins! I thought I would share my finds from this show. They are all quite different from each other.<br />
<br />
I'm going to start off with Brian's pick's (we had to restrain ourselves to two picks each!) The first painted canvas we bought is by Ryan Wiess;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNYL5wqpJdLU-Ws5phmxVfUxyhPHjMZUiwyUXeV1xpyU9G02RNV4PTjYwgDD2EccKh1r0fNXzX0-NTqtQa42jyIQQKy2ac1cCO_LH9Tqsx76fvLk18miQo-ebvze6mag0kKYgwm3qFJ2dk/s1600/IMG_0025f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNYL5wqpJdLU-Ws5phmxVfUxyhPHjMZUiwyUXeV1xpyU9G02RNV4PTjYwgDD2EccKh1r0fNXzX0-NTqtQa42jyIQQKy2ac1cCO_LH9Tqsx76fvLk18miQo-ebvze6mag0kKYgwm3qFJ2dk/s320/IMG_0025f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>It's hard to see in this photo, but there are some really cool textures and details. Here is an up-close view of some of what I mean. To me his work to me is young, vibrant, and playful.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgGXnHeOjz_GNsJKBuZB-d-1FVtYJhCPp55giZcXDvfr8vEtlm00Xla7ExOsSTEwdOlUOi5p6JglyeHgH1sqejTZ2XLeIc-jCQBlxQbSLacI8xSszoIo43ZVArOIc0mOfH9Uh97-ILr4XY/s1600/IMG_0028f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgGXnHeOjz_GNsJKBuZB-d-1FVtYJhCPp55giZcXDvfr8vEtlm00Xla7ExOsSTEwdOlUOi5p6JglyeHgH1sqejTZ2XLeIc-jCQBlxQbSLacI8xSszoIo43ZVArOIc0mOfH9Uh97-ILr4XY/s320/IMG_0028f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><br />
Brian really liked the detail in the the painting and the layers of this next piece (I am sorry to say I don't know the artists name!).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXLw9DJNXz5Cu8xUlSwG3GJ4FI0qytvbiihliL7uFGScmFiQ1_0yNEnvlZQk2Tro3XFh_e4DNkUto0i8ZLbJVWRqZIiEESKVP6kIaGnhCjo0hGn24cybRvO9ak6fD8XsBwlaCQiO3yfC8S/s1600/IMG_0032f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXLw9DJNXz5Cu8xUlSwG3GJ4FI0qytvbiihliL7uFGScmFiQ1_0yNEnvlZQk2Tro3XFh_e4DNkUto0i8ZLbJVWRqZIiEESKVP6kIaGnhCjo0hGn24cybRvO9ak6fD8XsBwlaCQiO3yfC8S/s320/IMG_0032f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Again, there is great detail and layers in this canvas painting, and up-close view...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW3Rzu_Bf7KGT3LnI2q-e9pFm7pZTjWYFb5Y_nBsnJe_JbTPGKVAR3vbIeJTUIv4aA9FrTC5kMcXsHpS7-L2ly93U_KuafoHy1Cj8CJL2CJeSW1SK26DRYtTMX2sG-ZpXGGMFpZVuPRLuB/s1600/IMG_0031f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW3Rzu_Bf7KGT3LnI2q-e9pFm7pZTjWYFb5Y_nBsnJe_JbTPGKVAR3vbIeJTUIv4aA9FrTC5kMcXsHpS7-L2ly93U_KuafoHy1Cj8CJL2CJeSW1SK26DRYtTMX2sG-ZpXGGMFpZVuPRLuB/s320/IMG_0031f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

After buying 3 pieces thought I was done...but then I spotted another artists' work that stood out. I bought a fourth piece and had to restrain myself from perusing other works. This last piece was the only one we purchased that didn't use canvas.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">It is a block print on wood and uses other media as well;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmO3fMFyMvb_2hnn_WsQzVbw8zc_bR7yYZ02XVUkwgfFaBd69aTRyQbH7nyd-Moc0fShUiNOPthsjyZYxTnujsrRI7NOL6rNDhasLyaWWcS7NLTejtvxlkKqVRJscVfdqPMxCE7sllgnH7/s1600/IMG_0033f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmO3fMFyMvb_2hnn_WsQzVbw8zc_bR7yYZ02XVUkwgfFaBd69aTRyQbH7nyd-Moc0fShUiNOPthsjyZYxTnujsrRI7NOL6rNDhasLyaWWcS7NLTejtvxlkKqVRJscVfdqPMxCE7sllgnH7/s320/IMG_0033f.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here you can see some of the up close texture and mixed media;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ8pQ4Jf6jEdRQoIcDlD1iMOdwpATHchKmaXWihEndJX_OHScqxHB1FGiOAIEzIqmGHvo_Usb12FvLuDvsYct3tg05nNYaAevfDJDcT6gBpFsCANYEd7HhW3n7-ew9FQsTvaTovtRRPojB/s1600/IMG_0034f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ8pQ4Jf6jEdRQoIcDlD1iMOdwpATHchKmaXWihEndJX_OHScqxHB1FGiOAIEzIqmGHvo_Usb12FvLuDvsYct3tg05nNYaAevfDJDcT6gBpFsCANYEd7HhW3n7-ew9FQsTvaTovtRRPojB/s320/IMG_0034f.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Several wood cuts were used to create the layers in the hot air ballon. I have finished all the sanding and filing on this one an without further adieu, the druzy agate pendant.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In my original post I mentioned that this stone reminded me of something delicate. So I used this idea, this feeling, to make a bird cutout on the back. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">These pictures really do not do this stone justice. I have been busy in my studio (and not so much busy with my camera). <br />
<br />
Although I've started (or even completed) <em>construction</em> on many one of a kind pieces, not one is complete yet. Not really surprising given the amount of finishing each one takes...but I thought I would share a preview of some of the stones I'm using.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You may recognize this fossilized coral from an <a href="http://threebirdsjewelry.blogspot.com/2011/02/fossilized-coral-cocktail-ring.html">earlier post</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2VvOOWQGG_vCmGEn-5Zr2NVLQS7eSPbJXEl6x8ZrG__JFD5qTtUKCkv7m37AvoiRWNc6_3GFWIWry_7iKYBmuVAuM5X-PP9k8w8l63zXDRt2aPb3Bw95Qt_0VT6UhukVfSz7bAQFtFSta/s1600/IMG_0010f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2VvOOWQGG_vCmGEn-5Zr2NVLQS7eSPbJXEl6x8ZrG__JFD5qTtUKCkv7m37AvoiRWNc6_3GFWIWry_7iKYBmuVAuM5X-PP9k8w8l63zXDRt2aPb3Bw95Qt_0VT6UhukVfSz7bAQFtFSta/s320/IMG_0010f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I decided to make a pendant with the matching stone. I am using an interesting but uncomplicated bail and a simple cut out because this stone is just too cool to hide it's wonderful detail. I am also going to use patina (as I did with the ring) to give it character and interest. I'm thinking I will also oxidize the chain and clasp for congruity.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This is a druzy agate. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXZL31aTH-HKLsn8k-nfZo3avoX0YJH2E4iGjmdkCoH-LehtL89sBM06bj5Ru8cu7g6i2mNTlGYT1PpTBfF_YsBI0p2ydvAqYcsamt-xzXVWEhbT-APXD83-IgNHkyFaHCKfN4Cn5XWUzY/s1600/IMG_0017f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXZL31aTH-HKLsn8k-nfZo3avoX0YJH2E4iGjmdkCoH-LehtL89sBM06bj5Ru8cu7g6i2mNTlGYT1PpTBfF_YsBI0p2ydvAqYcsamt-xzXVWEhbT-APXD83-IgNHkyFaHCKfN4Cn5XWUzY/s320/IMG_0017f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">A side view...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQwNyqDZFafqeF3jagrKmnCKV03kl1-8xRUpcdXUkrzg18Mxqf_qX6T6D_c3a69BEU_oXRxpPNZpKC8bgsv28FWvdKqummznrNNLggrnu1eKqDA64-Wz2XP5i9hfJpsfia-2ux9YOIMw1N/s1600/IMG_0024f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQwNyqDZFafqeF3jagrKmnCKV03kl1-8xRUpcdXUkrzg18Mxqf_qX6T6D_c3a69BEU_oXRxpPNZpKC8bgsv28FWvdKqummznrNNLggrnu1eKqDA64-Wz2XP5i9hfJpsfia-2ux9YOIMw1N/s320/IMG_0024f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">It has beautiful subtle greens and happy yellows with a few spots of orange. The abundance of tiny crystals has a wonderful sparkle. This stone makes me think 'light' 'airy' and 'delicate'. It is also translucent, so I wanted to do a cut out on the back. You will have to wait and see what I came up with!</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">A while back I bought a few jasper pieces from my local bead shop. You may recognize this one if you follow me on FB;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5yuy_DbY3qSoOok-M-qFkFmTKRoRWYCE-r8MhDpbOODscsGc3p8r-sDf6K1rrekfbms9A6an-Yq8Qlxf3G4IwlwLcGmo06wBRwZyED9EW_lF-u_0DqACSGlLusIyylUfLFYzrC-3OXJ9i/s1600/ButterflyDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5yuy_DbY3qSoOok-M-qFkFmTKRoRWYCE-r8MhDpbOODscsGc3p8r-sDf6K1rrekfbms9A6an-Yq8Qlxf3G4IwlwLcGmo06wBRwZyED9EW_lF-u_0DqACSGlLusIyylUfLFYzrC-3OXJ9i/s400/ButterflyDuo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Another view...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwZT-u3I8kFBzEljL1agU7iO3D3wf-c73_4T80Mm5L3G_OgBcIQ0FdVGYsWIekqzTupIKYLDMGJkTDaQfvLKvt8jY4PMbfd52K9LHJ-t9bhslwbtiTKzVybMW2ldYbdD_EcuOho-kCooaH/s1600/IMG_0017f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwZT-u3I8kFBzEljL1agU7iO3D3wf-c73_4T80Mm5L3G_OgBcIQ0FdVGYsWIekqzTupIKYLDMGJkTDaQfvLKvt8jY4PMbfd52K9LHJ-t9bhslwbtiTKzVybMW2ldYbdD_EcuOho-kCooaH/s320/IMG_0017f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is also jasper...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEGVvbDtU8J7ObSYS71OowDwXDJO1N0EZCsfK9DOrYB61-4Q_hmORPuv46lksYw_lbILMb3hUAVICyrlMUgOk9JeKewStKZaLv9VZ6nLCylnrMhwUvI3bHfnJdZresofGeHwM6juadbW3n/s1600/JasperDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEGVvbDtU8J7ObSYS71OowDwXDJO1N0EZCsfK9DOrYB61-4Q_hmORPuv46lksYw_lbILMb3hUAVICyrlMUgOk9JeKewStKZaLv9VZ6nLCylnrMhwUvI3bHfnJdZresofGeHwM6juadbW3n/s320/JasperDuo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">...and it's shape also reminds me a little butterfly happily floating around. So it too is destined to have it's very own butterfly cut out.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">You may recall this bracelet I made using a fossilized dinosaur bone;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmZEzIXfBP2XKRqfbHtL_MZSRNJmc-yfoUIbzzqnrtC_QbUKNNTrc1caEfB9yph_eeE7e2g7lgGItcN6OJ96xPvJijLdQEohNA-tgRqvWiTCgwJl1qG9Rqw1RvskzkThv1OUmvNH8migTB/s1600/IMG_0112f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmZEzIXfBP2XKRqfbHtL_MZSRNJmc-yfoUIbzzqnrtC_QbUKNNTrc1caEfB9yph_eeE7e2g7lgGItcN6OJ96xPvJijLdQEohNA-tgRqvWiTCgwJl1qG9Rqw1RvskzkThv1OUmvNH8migTB/s320/IMG_0112f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">This specimen of dino bone is quite different. Look familiar? This Varscite stone is the 'sister' stone to the <a href="http://threebirdsjewelry.blogspot.com/2011/01/varscite-ring.html">Varscite ring</a> as they were cut from the same piece of stone.<br />

I made a pair of earrings (for my mom's b-day), another set of stacking rings w/curved discs and a new pair or earrings. The new pair is a copper and silver combo. I used my dapping block to give them a nice curve and finished them with a brushed texture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYgwf9Zmxp9WPEpkXNhoMOtDmxxlc8-xAbOcpxqA2rkiAqr6ciXTd6rN-t0eshxQPzClGK6qhymdvIhyphenhyphendLVKzjW1-i31vo4ytJczVgN08LQpdDqZl_oN7hYmd9TG6A-TKCwq3Jp6fVclwc/s1600/IMG_0108f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYgwf9Zmxp9WPEpkXNhoMOtDmxxlc8-xAbOcpxqA2rkiAqr6ciXTd6rN-t0eshxQPzClGK6qhymdvIhyphenhyphendLVKzjW1-i31vo4ytJczVgN08LQpdDqZl_oN7hYmd9TG6A-TKCwq3Jp6fVclwc/s320/IMG_0108f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I've also been making some necklaces for the show that don't require the use of my torch. They all have a bit of sparkle and femininity about them. These have cut-outs of silver sheet mimicking the shape of the stone.<br />

But for now, that's a good thing since I'm trying to build inventory.</div>Three Birds Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16863870791454878810noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703954135248488947.post-28977458495155234112011-03-04T08:00:00.002-05:002011-03-04T08:00:12.246-05:00A productive weekend- part 1At the risk of alienating Brian and other friends and family, I will be spending a lot of time in my studio for the next few weeks. Last weekend was no different.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRTppRUCQZC9mKRfLXiej4_oaN6UYCC_xvP7aPz86q3BpLXCP9DFa1ZufLFznAVOT408v9Xt3n-kzS5DbVO9CkPo4J7npki_b7NBA8sCaSLGovG5FCXJIfErevKKu1HRNAnVLvXZgQI0Kn/s1600/IMG_0125f-frontcarpet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRTppRUCQZC9mKRfLXiej4_oaN6UYCC_xvP7aPz86q3BpLXCP9DFa1ZufLFznAVOT408v9Xt3n-kzS5DbVO9CkPo4J7npki_b7NBA8sCaSLGovG5FCXJIfErevKKu1HRNAnVLvXZgQI0Kn/s320/IMG_0125f-frontcarpet.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Most of Saturday I spent making this Lariamar pendant (please excuse the carpet background- I needed something light and I had only a few moments of sunlight left...so this had to do). I didn't sketch for this piece, which isn't terribly common for me. I felt inspired enough to just go for it. It was a studio session where ideas just came from the piece while I was working.<br />
<br />
I thought I would do a neat cutout on the back to show a bit of both sides of the stone...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghHL1_xoWmz35Ej7U3Hj2Bl3fYV7-i0vsmiv5Rd_ILxKROpaiDPjxGrxcPWagmMjl2Ki3cSrxRQNrsRfLcQJ4Dj_h6QGp8uzskdLNSC-qQZId_MKIfCVKwEey27ZolQrPLgLJf2BVlEgCn/s1600/IMG_0113f-back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghHL1_xoWmz35Ej7U3Hj2Bl3fYV7-i0vsmiv5Rd_ILxKROpaiDPjxGrxcPWagmMjl2Ki3cSrxRQNrsRfLcQJ4Dj_h6QGp8uzskdLNSC-qQZId_MKIfCVKwEey27ZolQrPLgLJf2BVlEgCn/s320/IMG_0113f-back.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>After I completed the cut outs, I soldered the bezel on and the idea of using a circular domed bail hit me. Its shape would mimic the cutouts and give uniform feel. The bail was a new style for me and there was a bit of trial and error that meant spending a lot of time on just this part. <br />
<br />
Plus, it just seemed to be a bit of a stinker...move views...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4-OqkUkUX94PptirzbDKMcBZusVv47OHM-0BSeZeX80ynxq2kHh8RhGZUdJUXLCpKfWoKVzNESPAzpFPccCiOxiyMgzW4P1EnfYim6FsNLJmNZPgiAYILCxSyXp46_k49wcYizIJw9g0x/s1600/Trio.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="106" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4-OqkUkUX94PptirzbDKMcBZusVv47OHM-0BSeZeX80ynxq2kHh8RhGZUdJUXLCpKfWoKVzNESPAzpFPccCiOxiyMgzW4P1EnfYim6FsNLJmNZPgiAYILCxSyXp46_k49wcYizIJw9g0x/s320/Trio.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Anyway, I am really happy with how it turned out. The studio session was also very satisfying because it was a raw creation in process- no plans, just go. I really love this bail setting and definitely plan to use it again. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Overall, this piece has a very modern clean feel to me...and with the circles it somehow has a 'cosmic' feeling. For those of you who don't know, a dapping block is a usualy made of steel and/or wood. It allows you to form domes out of circular cut metal.<br />

He said something along the lines of 'I'm not buying a rock' and that I have too much 'white space'. While the composition is good the subject material is not the main focus.<br />
<br />
A successful Etsy seller once told me that customers will want to feel like they were holding my pieces. It was only after I spoke with my brother I knew what this Etsy seller really meant.<br />
<br />
So...it was back to re-taking photos...AGAIN! Additionally, I should say that I only recently found a second macro setting my my camera. So this would also help me get even closer to my pieces. So I thought I would share some before (left) and afters (right) of photos...<br />

Inspired by <a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/2011/01/cute-and-tasty-pantone-chip-cookies.html/comment-page-1#comment-193890">this post,</a> we set out to make pantone chip cookies. Olivia was gracious enough to host, and to make the cookies ahead of time.<br />

I went to a workshop at <a href="http://www.bluehouseannarbor.com/www.bluehouseannarbor.com/About_Blue_House.html">Blue House</a> instructed by the very friendly and talented <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/AgainGoods?ga_search_query=again&ga_search_type=seller_usernames">Ashley from Again Goods</a>. While there, I managed to make three great felted gifts.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">One for Ava, her B-day is on Valentines after all! She could use this as a tag on her backpack or craft bag, or for whatever her imagination desires.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEs3Uz80Zwv5RaB4e-4QimjCdchXt9hn_6oU_8i1sf3jXpdnCz_XpwD_7CHpqd4WeElkDt57rqVPKaP_Gh1ycXlk-79X4o0zyqDQ21yJ9Tz9Dvq5HSpuuDStqfvwUqeWoikA_kadE7hjk-/s1600/IMG_0027f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEs3Uz80Zwv5RaB4e-4QimjCdchXt9hn_6oU_8i1sf3jXpdnCz_XpwD_7CHpqd4WeElkDt57rqVPKaP_Gh1ycXlk-79X4o0zyqDQ21yJ9Tz9Dvq5HSpuuDStqfvwUqeWoikA_kadE7hjk-/s320/IMG_0027f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">One for Brian- I resisted putting on hearts. I figure if I am to have a chance that he will use it, it better not have hearts! He could use this as a luggage tag, key chain, etc...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUD3MYIakPO7DIGLcBZDwyxtJMR8tLOmKBtXkLPCL0JFrGDT6xtB-ZqpS9yjkV4pjO24gvWf1MMsLoEbrzyFTd9n5eK7rRMQ268UUrIi2OKJXSmUDzGbkcxjA9kSFMVnfDbc3fwJwXs4GO/s1600/IMG_0024f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUD3MYIakPO7DIGLcBZDwyxtJMR8tLOmKBtXkLPCL0JFrGDT6xtB-ZqpS9yjkV4pjO24gvWf1MMsLoEbrzyFTd9n5eK7rRMQ268UUrIi2OKJXSmUDzGbkcxjA9kSFMVnfDbc3fwJwXs4GO/s320/IMG_0024f.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">The last tag I admit I intend to keep for myself (hehe). This tag could be used on one of my crafty bags, luggage, or a key chain. I admit I was a bit rushed when making this one. It shows...I should really re-sew these on by hand instead of using the machine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOeQ_-MOH-R87m8do293hcHknRxD2wDFyykDHrAqC48ODD5KqZTSCqDnv4dvKxnmAhSzHXzfyF0pV-IpMKGYUp7uYcJzs2e9CJH6mwSte2TnXRNFachTNTZVlgHXcz31qUAWFSXOWsKZ7D/s1600/IMG_0029f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOeQ_-MOH-R87m8do293hcHknRxD2wDFyykDHrAqC48ODD5KqZTSCqDnv4dvKxnmAhSzHXzfyF0pV-IpMKGYUp7uYcJzs2e9CJH6mwSte2TnXRNFachTNTZVlgHXcz31qUAWFSXOWsKZ7D/s320/IMG_0029f.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">While at Blue House I spotted these absolutely adorable<a href="http://bydeets.com/?p=327"> robots made by deets</a>. Siobhan (from Blue House) told me that the creator is an engineer, but now makes art for a living. Awesome! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy2R_HmwN0O2OayWUSyBrqN_M93IhSzLPsqvSsmQdkQjAqjhVNALDRZzpYq-GXmhRv2ewm4jHaHEcKG4Q5AuR48vT4BdrXAcXTjpvlfSDOjtoOyFBjUeOl5GL6Y33uDRZukNPQyFDABvi3/s1600/RobotDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy2R_HmwN0O2OayWUSyBrqN_M93IhSzLPsqvSsmQdkQjAqjhVNALDRZzpYq-GXmhRv2ewm4jHaHEcKG4Q5AuR48vT4BdrXAcXTjpvlfSDOjtoOyFBjUeOl5GL6Y33uDRZukNPQyFDABvi3/s400/RobotDuo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When I saw them I just had to get one for Brian, it was quirky and the kind of thing he would appreciate. I figured Valentines is as good of an excuse as any to give him a small trinket. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Over the summer I went to the Shadow Art Fair, where I scored some hand illustrated cards. I only made 2 sizes of hearts, but if you wanted to make other sizes you'd just need to experiment. Also, I used what I had around, so I'm sure if you wanted to substitute something fancier than sewing thread that could be done too!<br />
<br />
<strong>Supplies Needed:</strong><br />
Craft paper (12x12 sheet)<br />
Scissors<br />
Mod Podge (or any craft glue, not sure if a glue stick would work)<br />
binder clips<br />
Sewing thread<br />
Sewing needle<br />
Hole punch<br />
<br />
<strong>Instructions:</strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNM2eq7_o8ntwdAWydP3dcoAPZuYOzlx3PX27aB9ANqdf1gWcW4Ji3D5OWoKBOUPa1BBT_y8FC7fskg8LMftDxzZ-dHp06hBgdNTkSq7MZgX8FLePhJOOyM1GErg23IJIJyAyzVld2CsAp/s1600/IMG_0002f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNM2eq7_o8ntwdAWydP3dcoAPZuYOzlx3PX27aB9ANqdf1gWcW4Ji3D5OWoKBOUPa1BBT_y8FC7fskg8LMftDxzZ-dHp06hBgdNTkSq7MZgX8FLePhJOOyM1GErg23IJIJyAyzVld2CsAp/s320/IMG_0002f.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>1. For the larger hearts, cut strips of 12" long craft paper 1" wide. Smaller hearts are 6" long by 1"wide. Fold each strip in half.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBVIzlKriNn4I_eq7_slXtczY3T4lEDcvmvz2SjrVNYbLU9YYOrZQBBVsvL330TSrRVlKG0QRn4m_P0IIR7ySe3deWW235djaINBB-qKtc1Gr9AUTQutY7Pg8gikrDZu277dv1buoLym_D/s1600/IMG_0004f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBVIzlKriNn4I_eq7_slXtczY3T4lEDcvmvz2SjrVNYbLU9YYOrZQBBVsvL330TSrRVlKG0QRn4m_P0IIR7ySe3deWW235djaINBB-qKtc1Gr9AUTQutY7Pg8gikrDZu277dv1buoLym_D/s320/IMG_0004f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>2. To thread 3 hearts in a row, cut a piece of sewing thread about 3 ft in length, tie a loop at one end (this will be the top of the raining hearts).<br />
<br />
3. Originally I either tied a bunch of knots over each other or taped thread between punch hole remnants. I think it's best to sew through a punch hole remnant (see photo) as it is less likely to go through the paper when you pull the thread taught. You could easily substitue a decorative bead or something else in place of the punch hole. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdlKQ98VF0_CfqA8z9aqkKLYcVd1b5zH-JtQcV0IZdqZ3bG3ZOV5mQnM6Lb7HDA2np_xc_F4R5B36Vt1_j6vylvc9xVN-aLGdIZDtlvjkQRSMgmZo-zQcPxz9zxwnVKGSbUfD5KR71boa/s1600/PunchHole.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdlKQ98VF0_CfqA8z9aqkKLYcVd1b5zH-JtQcV0IZdqZ3bG3ZOV5mQnM6Lb7HDA2np_xc_F4R5B36Vt1_j6vylvc9xVN-aLGdIZDtlvjkQRSMgmZo-zQcPxz9zxwnVKGSbUfD5KR71boa/s400/PunchHole.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>4. At the fold of the heart insert the threaded needle and pull the thread through so the loop and threaded hole punch is on top of the heart.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8_D-k5kQt10e2PGvAFTa1XEY74OiRRNz67l7BVxrfDrP2Ocb9BipKj09k-CP3nUGP_qkPSil-ivV6qW8hYW7Nsd39Pak6Ju7V2d5h5Tfpwk6RHKBmaZ7VizYF4xKDBShDXGomsKEAFco/s1600/IMG_0005f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh8_D-k5kQt10e2PGvAFTa1XEY74OiRRNz67l7BVxrfDrP2Ocb9BipKj09k-CP3nUGP_qkPSil-ivV6qW8hYW7Nsd39Pak6Ju7V2d5h5Tfpwk6RHKBmaZ7VizYF4xKDBShDXGomsKEAFco/s320/IMG_0005f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>5. Apply craft glue to the insides of the bottom of the heart (the point), pull the thread taught to form the heart and secure the string and glued ends with a binder clip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg78sUaMSkmErdbOwgogx5rdslQ_3Akxsow98gj73YE7ZQkLmSfup1MTM5jGsFFxNYsnD41yTyB1grHAGEFO0B9bhuHJxu8GG2yrk19tunqofS-Ec5DAO7zH7Lb3Kqta4teWclWWLa0Ge_A/s1600/Trio.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg78sUaMSkmErdbOwgogx5rdslQ_3Akxsow98gj73YE7ZQkLmSfup1MTM5jGsFFxNYsnD41yTyB1grHAGEFO0B9bhuHJxu8GG2yrk19tunqofS-Ec5DAO7zH7Lb3Kqta4teWclWWLa0Ge_A/s400/Trio.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>At this point I usually start another strand to give the the glue time to dry.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTz61l_iuJ6_zZSlL_YT1mF7z_t5Ne0EBo7akgUEvY59Sp4SREZQSyQscxTXAXpPk5qxJUZNw1FtRuprkEACiXWIyzH3XSjmt3sQwiKYTcBi4HTwOGjrsyrDIvbmI6rgSxq3k4_vBE077r/s1600/IMG_0013f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="224" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTz61l_iuJ6_zZSlL_YT1mF7z_t5Ne0EBo7akgUEvY59Sp4SREZQSyQscxTXAXpPk5qxJUZNw1FtRuprkEACiXWIyzH3XSjmt3sQwiKYTcBi4HTwOGjrsyrDIvbmI6rgSxq3k4_vBE077r/s320/IMG_0013f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>6. Once the craft glue has dried, remove the binder clip.<br />
<br />
7. Re-thread the needle using the string under the first heart and repeat from step 3 above. <br />
<br />
Double Heart Instructions are the same as above except you insert the needle through two strips of paper (one strip is 12" the other is 6") at once.<br />

Brian bought me a pouch from one of <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/seaoats">my favorite Etsy shops</a> for Christmas.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIpatTZQsUUFThVJIHvOQFm73-FzNMC2-yvB5-JdH04GSceaOfbcN6wAwojFXocZF5iHJzNrZ8CeCZPcLTHNk8htNkZWstzIesSZPlv0gEkHeazBG7chcASSL6hpyWCrj_XDDg_GZOyz5r/s1600/seaoatspouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIpatTZQsUUFThVJIHvOQFm73-FzNMC2-yvB5-JdH04GSceaOfbcN6wAwojFXocZF5iHJzNrZ8CeCZPcLTHNk8htNkZWstzIesSZPlv0gEkHeazBG7chcASSL6hpyWCrj_XDDg_GZOyz5r/s320/seaoatspouch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I just LOVE my pouch (it is blue with a jellyfish) and bonus- she makes her items with recycled materials!<br />
<br />
I'm also a huge fan a loose teas (ok not EXACTLY hand made). I have had the pleasure of tasting few teas from <a href="http://teahaus-annarbor.com/">Tea Haus</a> in Ann Arbor. To my surprise I really loved Autumn Spice, which features fennel, anise, clove, and orange peel. This is a great option if you looking for something local and tasty that won't break the bank.<br />

You see, when I first soldered the silver pebble in place they were fine....but no, I had to be a perfectionist and try and adjust them ever so slightly.<br />
<br />
Foolish me!<br />
<br />
This caused silver solder to go everywhere. I spent a fair amount of time trying to sand them...but now they've been unfinished for far too long. The truth is I kind of gave up on them, at least this pair.<br />
<br />
I still like the design, they remind me of abstract flowers or a symbol of fertility. Me thinks I will try again...from scratch.Three Birds Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16863870791454878810noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703954135248488947.post-75454082073773225992011-02-02T06:00:00.004-05:002011-02-02T06:00:13.971-05:00It's raining...hearts?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPhZ69_8jjeNB9scsKOGy0bTqgI5K5QLZCHsekFP1FFSzSGXeXrGABiMeGBG5lhPDftfgXZeGwKyZPFPkirIqo2EiqSQLt0ebT8IIV9hwxXAUjNMdrWXXf592i2LUg3HDRVyq4T4niqrvC/s1600/IMG_16f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPhZ69_8jjeNB9scsKOGy0bTqgI5K5QLZCHsekFP1FFSzSGXeXrGABiMeGBG5lhPDftfgXZeGwKyZPFPkirIqo2EiqSQLt0ebT8IIV9hwxXAUjNMdrWXXf592i2LUg3HDRVyq4T4niqrvC/s400/IMG_16f.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>Over the weekend I managed to get my paper craft on AND take photos. These were inspired by some <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/66765820/breakfast-at-tiffanys-love-paperie-a?ref=sr_list_5&ga_search_query=heart%2Bpaper%2Bmap&ga_search_type=category&ga_category=paper_goods">finds on Etsy</a> and by <a href="http://threebirdsjewelry.blogspot.com/2010/12/i-heart-holiday-paper-craft.html">these</a> decorations I made around Christmas. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWLirVrmuGomeDBi8jtTRrPAuIwZbPOq-igd8PUTt1yHMQM41NVMEaHI4HdMV1m8CPrvW87J1vyNM9dOT0lyFbvwzJRRA9l0q0hi1lLLN9k8gBkCCCNuR59vWLw9YVzubQiIVGtk_iTfAu/s1600/OverviewDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWLirVrmuGomeDBi8jtTRrPAuIwZbPOq-igd8PUTt1yHMQM41NVMEaHI4HdMV1m8CPrvW87J1vyNM9dOT0lyFbvwzJRRA9l0q0hi1lLLN9k8gBkCCCNuR59vWLw9YVzubQiIVGtk_iTfAu/s400/OverviewDuo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>I sorta winged it and tried two different ways of making them. I learned two important things;<br />
1. knots work better on top (pink heart, right) than double sided tape between two punch hole remnants (red heart w/blue & white interior, left). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Eoj6YaxtgVEDZDcDyXadx6VicG0mYUnZxcoY00AYomP-Ayn8917kBxyUDv8Tm0Dj2qxSLwqP_JcYEmoNA4ZC-tFKJZDC4WGRjfSArxFLR3Oo5axLJtmjJCrzDbkPbB91AU7XKl4UlUEG/s1600/RedPinkDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Eoj6YaxtgVEDZDcDyXadx6VicG0mYUnZxcoY00AYomP-Ayn8917kBxyUDv8Tm0Dj2qxSLwqP_JcYEmoNA4ZC-tFKJZDC4WGRjfSArxFLR3Oo5axLJtmjJCrzDbkPbB91AU7XKl4UlUEG/s400/RedPinkDuo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
2. use mod podge (and clips while they dry) instead of double sided tape to hold the bottom of the hearts together (or else risk the tension of the paper pulling on the sting, resulting in a malformed heart).<br />
<br />
These are currently adorning our dining area, but I will be making a few more for my nieces 4th birthday (which happens to fall on Valentines day).Three Birds Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16863870791454878810noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703954135248488947.post-82681466310133563602011-01-31T06:00:00.004-05:002011-01-31T06:00:06.900-05:00Varscite Ring<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div> I recently joined a group on Flickr called <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/ringaweek/">'Ring a Week'</a> and the challenge is to make 1 ring a week for a year. It is a personal challenge and 'there are no rules'. I thought it would be fun to join, but was worried that a ring a week would be unrealistic for me personally. <br />
<br />
So I was happy to read that you can still participate in the group, you just use different tags (RAW2011 instead of RAW52) in your photo. Funny thing is that in January I've already made new 4 rings, and here I am posting about another! <br />
<br />
Back in December I made a stop to my local bead shop to see what was new. I found a stone I wasn't too familiar with called Varscite. I was immediately drawn to it's earthiness, pretty blues, greens, and browns. It reminds me of turquoise in that way.<br />
<br />
There were three pieces available, and because I'm greedy I bought all three!<br />
<br />
I am considering doing some kind of combination of the larger and smaller piece in a necklace, but so far I haven't found a way to make them flow just right in a design. In the mean time, I've made this <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/67046697/big-beauty-varscite-ring-with-oxidized">lovely ring</a>;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8vp-F5PgT6UGTSwAHEjlSzW3xS86VuNw7SwoCcCY09-IAozpSurGy7wQtgA-HK2_TNpU4JUFfv2BQqlalFCacBwL5MSsfHdvNeyuKkoXvEwC51bMzqk2zdD-geqihYsmBK2BIW89k8UE/s1600/FrontBackDuo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="140" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8vp-F5PgT6UGTSwAHEjlSzW3xS86VuNw7SwoCcCY09-IAozpSurGy7wQtgA-HK2_TNpU4JUFfv2BQqlalFCacBwL5MSsfHdvNeyuKkoXvEwC51bMzqk2zdD-geqihYsmBK2BIW89k8UE/s400/FrontBackDuo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>It is a statement piece for sure, a nice big 'ol cocktail ring. The back features an open band, I heated each end to form balls, hammered them flat and soldered them to the base. The front pebbles were also hammered flat and patina is used to add a little more character. <br />
I love it, but unfortunately it is a smidge to big for me. So, I'm hoping it will find a happy home else where.Three Birds Jewelryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16863870791454878810noreply@blogger.com1
